Rehabilitation

Broad implementation and application of medical rehabilitation brings tangible advantages by shortening treatment time and restoring the highest possible level of physical and mental abilities of the patient.

Medical rehabilitation begins as soon as the disease is diagnosed and the treatment plan is composed. Its aim is to restore the patient’s physical and mental abilities to the largest possible extent, in the shortest possible time. Medical rehabilitation is closely related to treatment methods on the one hand, and to social and psychological rehabilitation on the other. This is achieved on a step-by-step basis, as the patient regains and maintains his/her abilities, which in its turn makes it possible to extend the scope of integration in the family and in the society.
The development of rehabilitation as one of the medical specialties began after World War 2, when it was recognized as an integral 3 phase of the therapeutic process (preceded by diagnosis and treatment). In Poland, the main promoters of medical rehabilitation were professors Wiktor Dega, Adam Gruca, Kazimiera Milanowska and Marian Weiss. Thanks to their involvement and enormous, globally appreciated knowledge, a concept of rehabilitation based on 4 principles was developed:
• comprehensiveness;
• completeness;
• early start;
• continuity;

In accordance with the completeness principle, our CENTER has set up a therapeutic team. It is a group of specialists representing various medical disciplines and related sciences used in therapy, who cooperate with one another for the purpose of developing and modifying multi-faceted rehabilitation programs.

The members of the CENTER’s therapeutic team include:
• a doctor specializing in medical rehabilitation;
• doctors specializing in other disciplines (neurologist, orthopedist, rheumatologist, balneologist);
• physiotherapists;
• an occupational therapist;
• a speech therapist;
• nurses;
• a psychologist,

In the broadly defined process of rehabilitation, one can differentiate between medical, social and professional rehabilitation.

Medical rehabilitation (physiotherapy) consists of:
• kinetic therapy
• physical therapy
• therapeutic massage.

Kinetic therapy – or movement therapy – is the fundamental and most important branch of rehabilitation.
Some exercises cause local effects – they are applied to the area affected by the disease. Other exercises affect the entire body, thus employing also the healthy organs and tissues, thus positively affecting the general fitness of the patient, which determines the final effect of the therapy.
Physical therapy consists of the use of various types of externally generated energy (electrotherapy, ultrasounds, magnetic therapy, laser therapy, light therapy, heat therapy, cryotherapy)
It should be noted that in rehabilitation treatment, physical therapy plays an assisting role and is rarely used as the primary procedure. Its aim is usually to support kinetic therapy, soothe pain and provide stimuli.
Therapeutic massage involves the use of mechanical stimuli – usually in the form of pressure applied on tissues – in order to cause physiological reactions. It is a set of manual techniques used in a predefined sequence. They affect the skin, subcutaneous tissues, muscles, articular capsules and ligaments. Also, they cause reflexive changes in the circulatory, nervous and endocrinic systems.

Restoring or compensating for functions lost as a result of the disease is the ultimate goal of rehabilitation. As a result, the patient’s ability to take care of his/her own needs and functions is maximized. The effects of therapy largely depend on the regularity of procedures and the patient’s personal involvement. It is therefore important to develop an adequate model of cooperation between the therapist and the patient.

Parafango therapy is also used for treatment and rehabilitation (without using active substances):
1.    Rheumatic pains, arthritis, inflammations of muscles and ligaments,
2.    Muscular and skeletal conditions,
3.    Circulatory vessels conditions,
4.    Skin inflammations,
5.    Muscle pains and muscle acid build-up
6.    Pains
7.    Dry, dehydrated skin,
8.    Stress level reduction.
